This work is based off of an Andrew Calder wire sculpture. I saw the work at the Whitney and was really mesmerized by how the sculpture's facial features were altered by changing vantage points.

For the midterm assignment, I wanted to play with light and shadow. Moving the light source distorts and creates a different work of art as the original sculpture stands still. The pieces of the sculpture begin to fragment as time passes, eventually reduced to a pile on the floor. Even though the sculpture is no longer intact in its original form, it can still produce interesting shadows.

The most difficult and frustrating component to create in this work was the 3d modeling. To achieve the wire look I used the curve tool and extruded a cylinder along the curve. The image of the sculpture I found was only 2 dimensional. I tried to replicate the 2d curves and then imaging how they would be constructed in a 3 dimensional space.
